SCIGC Research Overview

Branching across the seven schools and many research institutes and centers at Stanford, SCIGC is a university-wide interdisciplinary research platform.  Given our location in the world renowned smart city of Songdo, SCIGC research is initially focusing on the topics of smart city technology implementation, sustainable urban systems and wellness, innovative entrepreneurship methods and business models, and sustainable development and global economic competitiveness.

A Stanford Approach to Smart City and Sustainable Urban System Research

As the Stanford Center at the Incheon Global Campus grows and emerges from the effects of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the evolving research vision for SCIGC is increasingly more important and relevant to society.  This is especially so as it relates to our Center’s purpose of “ultimately establish[ing] a smart city model by individually or collectively researching and studying the fundamental components that enable a smart city. The research focuses not only on the construction of information and communication infrastructure and technology demonstration but also on finance and economy, related organizations, sustainability, health, social equality and public policy so as to establish an intelligent future city system that can detect in advance and respond to problems that current cities suffer from, such as the gap between the rich and the disadvantaged and the environmental problems.”
