Vision, Mission & Goals

As a top-tier, global research institution in the heart of Silicon Valley, Stanford has a long history of international collaboration through research, education, and engagement.  The Stanford Center at the Incheon Global Campus (SCIGC) is Stanford University’s flagship research center in South Korea.  Located in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, SCIGC is a growing home for Stanford’s vibrant interactions with South Korea and Asia.

Our Vision

As one of Asia’s foremost modern democracies, South Korea is a global model for sustainable economic development, the principles of democracy, and a boundless drive for innovation.  With regard to economic growth, democratization, and innovation, the Silicon Valley ecosystem is often described using similar phrases.  We envision a “South Korea + Silicon Valley” hub that empowers world-class collaborative research, scholarship, learning, technology transfer, innovation, and engagement.   Through interactions back and forth across the Pacific, we foresee the Stanford Center at the Incheon Global Campus uniting the best of South Korea, Silicon Valley, and Stanford University to make real, positive impact in South Korea and around the globe, while more closely connecting Stanford with our South Korean alumni, partners, and friends.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide an open and collaborative research, learning, and engagement platform for Stanford University, Silicon Valley, and South Korea.  Branching across the seven schools and many research institutes and centers at Stanford, SCIGC is a university-wide interdisciplinary research platform initially engaging in the topics of smart city technology implementation, sustainable urban systems and wellness, innovative entrepreneurship methods and business models, and sustainable development and global economic competitiveness.

Our Goals

  • To serve as an open and collaborative platform for research, scholarship, learning, and engagement that unites the best of South Korea, Silicon Valley, and Stanford University.
  • To facilitate the development of groundbreaking technologies, techniques, innovations, and ideas that enable real, positive impact in South Korea and around the globe.
  • To more closely connect Stanford with our alumni, partners, and friends through an active, vibrant presence in South Korea.
