Research Pillars

The Human Urban Interaction (HUI) pillar comprises SCIGC research focused on the development of computational platforms that translate smart city data streams into information that humans can interpret and understand.  Such information is the point of interaction between people and the urban systems which they inhabit.  The SCIGC HUI research effort includes the development of new computational algorithms that sense and interpret the actions of individuals walking in a smart city public space, and the application of highly efficient reinforcement learning algorithms to optimize urban traffic flow in real-time.  HUI research also studies the ways in which vehicle drivers interpret and react to smart city surroundings, and information flows coming into their vehicle.
