Sustainability (SUST)

Research Pillars

The Sustainability (SUST) pillar comprises the second component of SCIGC research that is focused on developing new and innovative smart city engagement mechanisms.  While the DTE pillar focuses on the creation of engagement mechanisms, the Sustainability pillar focuses on the creation of engagement value.  Engagement mechanisms are only effective over the long term if they deliver value in the form of financial benefits and increased urban quality of life.  Otherwise, novelty will wane and users will lose interest.  Nearly every research project at SCIGC touches on the Sustainability research pillar given the importance of finance and individual quality of life to the success of smart cities, and the growing importance of global environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
